It can be used in many ways such as a hand-held monocular or head mounted infrared system. Mostly this lightweight device is operated by the user as it is portable and rugged. It can be used at anytime irrespective of it being day or night. This device senses thermal IR heat which turns out an advantage when using the device in no lighting on low light operations but device is immune to light degradation. You have three separate parts first one being hand-held FLIR thermal imager, second being a thermal weapon sight, and third is monocular FLIR goggle with head mount and helmet mounting capabilities to standard US military AN/PVS-7 and AN/PVS-14 NVG's. Sensor image fusion is anticipated in Q1 2008 The focal plane array FPA technology with coated germanium optics, rugged housing and hardened and the best accuracy makes the Military and law enforcement qualified. The sensor has 7-14 micron Uncooled microbolometer. The size of the device is length - 10.3cm, width - 8.5cm, and height - 5.0 cm. the weight of the device with the head strap is 550 grams +2 to -6 eyepiece is used as an infrared camera viewer. The weapon mount is a base mount quick attach feature and bullet drop compensator where as the helmet mount is used in the military night vision flip-up type helmet mounting system. The head gear that is the standard AN/PVS-7D night vision goggle head mount with three brow pads. AN/PVS-15 Night Vision Goggle style mounts are also available.
